ENROLLMENT INFORMATION
Auditions
Students who wish to
perform with the Green Mountain Youth Symphony should be able to
read music; and wind, percussion, and brass players should have
been playing their chosen instrument for at least one year. The
musician should audition with a polished piece, a scale of their
choosing, and should expect to sight-read. Violin and
viola players who wish to audition for advanced placement should
prepare a three-octave scale with at least 2 sharps or flats,
and cellists auditioning for advanced orchestra placement should
prepare a four-octave scale.
Auditions will be held on
Saturday, May 3 and Saturday, May 17 and will take place at U32
Junior-Senior High School in Montpelier. They will last
approximately 10 minutes each. Practice rooms will be
available for students to warm up in.

Tuition must be paid in full by
the first rehearsal of the semester, unless other arrangements
are made in advance. If the tuition is unpaid, members may not
participate. You may make arrangements to pay tuition in two
installments, with half due by the first rehearsal, by
contacting Sarah Madru, Orchestra Manager.

Scholarships
Scholarships are
available, and are granted on the basis of income and family
size. To apply for a scholarship, families must complete an
application form and return it to the GMYS along with a copy of
their 2006 Federal Income Tax returns. For those who qualify for
assistance, a scholarship covers half the cost of tuition.
The Vermont Violins Music Education Scholarship
Fund
Vermont Violins is offering scholarships to current GMYS string
players to supplement private lesson fees. GMYS will award
three scholarships in the amount of $200 for the year ($100 to
be distributed each semester) on the basis of financial need and
conductor recommendations. Students must meet the following
criteria in order to be considered for one of the scholarships:

String player (violin, viola, cello, or bass)

Current orchestra participant during the fall
2006 semester

Demonstrated financial need

Intends to continue playing with the
orchestra during the spring 2007 semester

Has received a recommendation from his/her
GMYS conductor

Will use the scholarship only for
private lessons with an instructor proficient on his/her
chosen instrument

Summer Music Camp
The Green Mountain Youth Symphony will offer
two summer music camps in 2008:

A residential music camp at
Johnson State College for intermediate and advanced young
musicians, July 13-19.
-
A day camp in Montpelier for
beginner and intermediate young musicians, July 28 - August
1.

Acceptance at both camps is by

Residential Music Camp
The Green Mountain Youth Symphony will hold
its third annual summer music camp at
Johnson State College from
July 13 - 19, 2008.
Intermediate and advanced student
musicians will work privately with professional musicians, play
chamber music, study eurhythmics, and rehearse as a full orchestra. The camp
will conclude with a short concert for family and friends.
Participants will reside at Johnson
State College in beautiful Johnson, Vermont. Students will
share rooms in one of the central residence halls, which
includes shared bathrooms on each floor and common spaces.
The small campus provides easy access to its excellent
facilities, including: rehearsal rooms, practice rooms, Bentley
Hall auditorium, cafeteria, dormitories, recreation areas,
swimming pool, and social activity spaces. The surrounding
area is ideally suited to outdoor activities like picnics,
hikes, and games.

The cost for the camp is $600, and
includes meals, lodging, all musical instruction, use of campus
facilities, and recreational activities. Scholarships are
available and are based on need.
Day Camp
The Green Mountain Youth Symphony will offer its first music
day camp in Montpelier from July 28 - August 1.
Beginner and intermediate student
musicians will work privately with professional musicians, play
chamber music, study eurhythmics, and rehearse as a full
orchestra. The camp will conclude with a short concert for
family and friends.
