GMYS | Prelude
A joyful and supportive introduction to violin, viola, and cello!

Afterschool Strings with the Green Mountain Youth Symphony
Prelude is an afterschool string program from Green Mountain Youth Symphony designed to give young musicians a joyful and supportive introduction to violin, viola, and cello.
Through weekly group instruction, students develop foundational playing skills, learn to make music together, and build the confidence that can lead them toward becoming lifelong musicians- and eventually, join the Green Mountain Youth Symphony.
Prelude currently offers two program locations, serving students at the Montessori School of Central Vermont and students from any educational background at the Monteverdi Music School.

Why Prelude?
Prelude is about more than learning an instrument. It is an opportunity for young students to discover the joy of making music with others.
Our goal is to:
-
Make high-quality string instruction accessible to young students
-
Create a positive and encouraging first experience with an instrument
-
Build strong musical and technical foundations
-
Encourage curiosity, creativity, and confidence
-
Help students develop the skills and experience to continue growing as musicians
-
Create a pathway toward future participation in Green Mountain Youth Symphony
A Path Toward GMYS
Prelude is part of the broader Green Mountain Youth Symphony community. As students develop their musical skills, they can continue exploring opportunities with GMYS and, when they are ready, work toward participating in one of our youth ensembles.
